Trying to make Sense!
Here I am this morning trying with all of my heart to make sense out of a reckless act. My son, who is 32, was leaving a local pub to cross the street to his house, when 3 guys decided that they were going to jump him. Now they did not steal his wallet, they did not say anything to him..they just started beating him up...as luck would have it several people came out of the bar and scared them off...someone called 911..someone followed the guys to the house they went to (so the police do know who they are, but it is up to my son to press charges)...My son, was left unconscious and bleeding in the street! He has bruised ribs...a fractured nose...a lip split so wide open that it took some 28 stitches both inside and out to put back together...He has a black eye and scraps where they pulled him along the sidewalk and hit and kicked him....Even as I write this tears come to my eyes....I am thankful that this is all that happened to him...I am thankful that he has a winning personality and insists that they are battle wounds and girls like scars!...I am thankful for those who called 911 and for those who stayed at the hospital with him. What I do not understand is WHY!? Why would anyone do this to anyone else? What would make anyone think that this is a FUN thing to do on a Friday night? What type of person does something like this? Now, my son, for whatever reason does not think that he will press charges...(it would take to much time out of his life...what really would be the good in this...all those "nice" things) And yet, my gentle heart cries...and I think that there must be some kind of consequence that one must pay...that you should have to be responsible for your actions weather they are good or bad...I am trying to make sense of such a senseless act. And I am just not sure where to put this today...Thanks for listening...it is helping...
Artfully Yours,
Pattie

Please encourage him to press charges. My son, at age 11 was attacked by another boy, age 11 and severely bitten. We called police but I didn't want to press charges because "he is just a child". The officer told me..."will you wait until he kills your son or someone else? The child needs major help and won't get it if you don't press charges". Could be that your son will prevent this, or worse, happening to another person.
I do believe that NOT to press charges would be the WRONG thing..that regardless of what the legal system does or does not do to these young men, it sends a clear message that it is unacceptable behavior. I will stand by my son's decision to do whatever is in his heart to do...but I have given my hearts answer to him...and I will be there for whatever he needs from me. I have taught him to be kind, gentle and loving...and a better son a mother could not ever ask for!
Oh Pattie, I'm so sorry to hear what happened to your son!!! Such reckless and random acts of violence always stun me... Now I understand the context behind your beautiful meditation on "Why?" on your other blog. Your son is taking this attack with great spirit and I can see where he got this from. Sending prayers and healing to you both.
HELLO Pattie... Chris here, from California, was in your Muse training last year. I'm so upset for you. Nothing hurts worse than your child hurting. My son was assaulted in 1995, at 25 years old... for nothing. They didn't even pick his pockets. He now lives with a brain injury and will never be the same.
I've spent countless hours asking, wondering why... my family is tired of my opinions on violence on TV and games.
It is senseless and horrible, and we have to admit there is darkness in the world.
I'm so thankful that your son seems to be ok. But PLEASE have him press charges... if only to create more balance in the world. It's not to punish or revenge, mostly to create an energetic balance. Encourage him to give a "Victim's Statement" and ask the judge to make the perpetrators do community service.
The four teens that almost killed my son served from 6 months (the cop's son!), to five years (the oldest, an 18 yr old). I can't imagine what they learned from this... and I wish that they could have contributed back to society somehow.
While the darkness exists, aren't we fortunate, as artists to be in the position of creating positive, beautiful, harmonious works!
God Bless you and your son. There was a victim's group that really helped with counseling etc.
Good luck, blessings, and much love and light...
Chris

Dear Pattie,
I am so sad to hear about this incident, and the pain it's caused your son, you, your family.
These are angry, frustrated people, and blessed are the angels that scared them off and called 911 and discovered where they live.
Since the police know who they are, and there are eye-witnesses, WHY can't they arrest these bullies? or at very least talk to them??? let them know their behavior was evil and wrong...do SOMETHING...even if your son decides not to press charges?
I am so sad for you and your family. What a beautiful son you have!
With love,
Jeanne Hillson
